Active steroid/nuclear receptors
	Produced in insect cells supplemented with human molecular chaperones
	Thirteen percent (13%) of drugs approved in the United States target steroid and nuclear receptors. In 2009, drugs to these targets generated an estimated $27.5 billion of revenue (Insight Pharma Reports. Nuclear receptors: The Pipeline Outlook Report. September 2010). Despite excellent efficacy, these drug therapies can often have notorious metabolic side effects.   Hence, a major focus in current discovery of drugs targeting steroid and nuclear receptors is to identify more selective drugs (Wilkinson et al., J. Biomol. Screen. 13(8) 755-765, 2008). This effort has been hampered by the unavailability of biochemical assays for major receptors of this group in their native, Hsp90-bound form.   In nature, all steroid receptors as well as some other nuclear receptors exist in complex with the Hsp90 molecular chaperone which is essential for native ligand-binding properties of the receptors (details). However, no such receptor/Hsp90 complexes were commercially available for drug screening in a purified form.   AB Vector resolved this problem by co-expressing receptors with Hsp90 and other human molecular chaperones, i.e. Hsp40, Hsc70, Hop and p23, which are required to form and stabilize receptor/Hsp90 complexes (details), Fig. 1.
